A Girl's Forgotten Friend: Broken Porcelain Doll

Do you still remember the porcelain doll you had when you were just a little girl? Maybe, you do; maybe, you don't. Either way, I'm certain it still remembers you.

Okay, enough with the weird introduction [Haha]. I know this is a very late post, but I still think it's worth being published.

Please forgive my messy background. These photos were just taken using my laptop. Sad life. Hahaha

I didn't go to any Halloween parties this year. As I have stated in a previous post, Halloween isn't such a big deal in this country. So, I just stay at home and do normal everyday things. A friend of mine (who is younger than I am) requested for me to do a China Doll look. She didn't need a tutorial or anything. She just wanted to see me in something more feminine for a change. Of course, I was open to the idea. However, I decided to go for something a little more me. So, I turned myself into a broken China/Porcelain Doll.

The look without the wig, cracks, and lace choker. Simple, right?

The look is so simple, you wouldn't need a tutorial for it. Just exaggerate your usual makeup [use a lighter foundation, make your eyes look bigger, reshape you lips (optional), and apply your blush heavily). You can stop there for a plain doll look. If you want to look broken, just draw cracks on your face using eyeliner (you can use any type of eyeliner for this). You can also do shading, but I opted not to (because I was lazy).

I don't really have anything more to say. So, Happy Halloween! Hopefully, I will have more viewers and followers by next year. ._. Hahaha

Bad background + bad lighting = Ghostly face

Undead: Zombie/Walker Halloween Makeup

This photo was digitally enhanced. You can do this, too. It looks cool in photos. :)

There are so many Halloween makeup looks to choose from. From fairy princesses to vampires, we all have our different costume ideas. However, not all of us have the time or budget to dress up for Halloween. So, if you're looking for an easy look to do, here is one simple option for you. That's right, as the title suggests, a zombie.

A zombie look for Halloween is probably one of the simplest to do. You basically just want to look, well, dead. (._.) [Haha] So, people, step away from your concealers because your dark circles and blemishes will come in handy.

Makeup you will need:
  • Pale foundation or your regular foundation mixed with some white face paint - Don't use plain white face paint. You are a zombie, not a ghost. You're supposed to look as if you are decaying. So, if you want to opt for face paint, I would suggest you use something with more of a grey or greenish tone.
  • Translucent setting powder - Avoid skintone powder because this can affect the colour of your base. You want your complexion to look pale, as though you were sick.
  • Black, brown, red, purple, and grey eyeshadows - Again, you can opt for facepaint, but I just prefer using eyeshadows/pigments as they are much more blendable, in my opinion.
  • Fake blood/Red face paint/Liquid lipstick (that actually stays in liquid state) - This is optional, but I like the effect that it gives.
Tools that you will need:
  • Cosmetic sponge/brush - I would personally go for the sponge for this particular look. It is not your aim to look flawless. You just want to make your skin pale.
  • Eyeshadow brushes  - This is optional, but it helps.
  • Detailing brush - You can use any thin brush. I used a paint brush.

I just wanted to add this in here, teehee.
How time flies... I hope I can improve this look even further for next Halloween, hahaha.

Instructions:
  1. Starting with a clean face, apply your chosen base makeup. You don't have to conceal your blemishes. A light layer of your base should be enough to cancel out your healthy skin colour. Apply some on your lips, as well.
  2. Set your base lightly using translucent powder.
  3. Using your eyeshadows, apply some colour to your eyes. Mimic the appearance of dark circles; but, be sure to exaggerate. Use plenty of purple! Go crazy with this, but be sure to blend out the edges to make them look softer. Otherwise, you will just end up looking like a panda (and pandas are cute, not scary, hahaha).
  4. Using grey eyeshadow, contour your face. Opt for a neutral toned grey. Skip the brown this time. Concentrate on your cheekbones and eye creases to make them look hollow and sunken in. Apply a small amount to the inner portions of your lips. (Think...Korean Ulzzang gradient lips--zombie version!)
  5. Using a fine, detailing brush, draw on gashes, wounds, veins, and even tears of blood on your face using your fake blood, face paint, or in my case, liquid lipstick. Get creative! Use this time to adjust your look to your liking. Add some eyeshadow if needed. Make your skin look all dirty using the brown eyeshadow. Just have fun with this part.
Tip: For wounds, I suggest shading the edges using black eyeshadow just to add depth. Also, if you have blue/green eyeshadow, you can also use this to add more realistic looking veins.
  6. Mess up your hair, wear some torn/(fake) blood-stained clothing, practice your zombie walk, and you're basically done!
That was fairly simple, right? So, if you're in need of a last minute costume, give this one a try. Have fun scaring people!

Watashi wa Titan-desu!!! : Attack on Titan/Shingeki no Kyojin Colossal Titan Halloween Makeup

"On that day, humanity received a grim reminder..."
I'm feeling very proud of myself for finding time to make another blog post. As the title suggests, this is an entry about a very casual FOTD/MOTD. [LOL, no.] Anyway, enough kidding around.

Halloween is just around the corner. Unfortunately, it is not widely celebrated in my country. It's just not part or our culture. Sure, we have costume parties and stuff like that; however, we don't often put up Halloween decorations. We don't have door-to-door/house-to-house trick-or-treating around the neighbourhood. We just don't make a big deal out of Halloween. [When I was a child, I used to whine about wanting to go trick-or-treating. I always used to watch foreign shows and cartoons and I didn't understand why the characters on TV can go trick-or-treating and I can't. Haha] Anyway, that doesn't get in the way of me wanting to try out different Halloween inspired looks.

This year, I went with a character-based look inspired by the Colossal Titan from Attack on Titan or Shingeki no Kyojin, an Anime show. I absolutely LOVE SnK!!! [Haha] I wanted to do a Female Titan look, but I didn't have a blonde wig. So, I settled for this one.

I came in like a wreeeeeecking baaaaall... I never hit so haaaaaard in looooove! All I wanted was to breeeeaaaaak your WAAAAAAALLSSSS!!!
I apologize for not making a tutorial on this. I wasn't planning on doing this, anyway. I just randomly had the urge to play around with some makeup and came up with this. That is also my excuse for why this isn't very accurate. I didn't have a reference photo to copy from, so I just did this based on memory. I came pretty close, though, don't you think?

For the list of products, I used the following:
  • L.A. Colors Jumbo Eye Pencil in the shade "Sea Shells" - I didn't have any white face paint, so I had to improvise. As I have said, I never really planned on doing this look. Had I predicted I would be doing it, I would have purchased some. Anyway, if you're planning on recreating this look, I suggest that you use actual white face paint.
  • Ever Bilena Matte Eyeshadow Quartet in "Golden Siren" - I used the red eyeshadow shade from this quad (obviously). This is my absolute FAVOURITE red eyeshadow. It's pigmented, blendable, very long lasting. If you're looking for a good red eyeshadow that is well worth your money, pick this eyeshadow quad and I swear, it won't disappoint you. Of course, this is just my personal preference for brand. You can use any red eyeshadow you want, as long as it is matte and more of a neutral or cool tone. Don't use a warm or orangey red. It won't work as well. If you want to use face paint instead, go ahead! :)
  • Ever Bilena Color Pencil in "Black" - Is it obvious that I love Ever Bilena? [Haha] You can use any black eyeliner that you have.
  • Ever Bilena Advance HD Concealer Pencil - I used this to map out the parts and patterns on my face. You can use any white or flesh tone pencil you have.
  • Fashion 21 Dipliner in "Black" - I also used a liquid liner just on the actual eyelid to make it very black.
  • James Cooper Jazzy Eyeshadow (Black) - You can use any matte black eyeshadow to intensify the black on the eyes and also, to add lines and definition to the look.
  • White face powder/Translucent Setting powder - I personally skipped this because I didn't have any and I didn't really need it (since I just took photos); however, if you're planning on wearing this to a costume party, I would highly recommend the use of a setting powder (on the white parts of the face). A good brand that I would recommend is Essence Cosmetics.
For tools...
  • Ever Bilena Eyeshadow Brush - This is an excellent multipurpose brush! You can use it to pack on eyeshadow, apply and blend concealer, apply lipstick, or even line your eyes (if you have a steady hand)! I love this brush so much, I just had to own two. You can use any eyeshadow brush you have, as long as it's a little stiff, not flimsy or fluffy. You want something that can "paint" on colour, not buff it around. A sponge applicator can also work, but I wouldn't recommend that. Anyway, this brush is very affordable, so don't hesitate on getting one.
  • Fashion 21 Blending Brush - This is another good buy. It's a little bit flimsy and it does tend to shed just a little bit, but it does the job of blending and that's good enough for me. You can use any small, fluffy, blending brush that you have lying around.
  • Q-tips/Cotton swabs/Cotton buds - You'll need a couple of these for clean-ups.
  • Small powder brush/Cosmetic sponges/Blending Brush - If you're planning on setting the white parts with powder, use a brush that is small enough to only touch the parts you intend to set to avoid messing up the red portions.
  • Scotch Tape/Masking Tape - This is absolutely optional, but if you need a guide to help you create clean, straight lines, you can use tape to aid you in that. Just make sure to take out the excess stickiness by sticking it to the back of your hand and removing it a few times (this ensures that the tape won't tug at your delicate facial skin once you need to remove it).
  • Angled Eyeliner Brush - You will need this for detailing.
Now, since I don't have a video tutorial or my usual frame-by-frame photo tutorial, I'll just try my best to explain the process.
  1. Starting off with a clean face, you can apply moisturizer and/or primer as needed. I personally went with a plain, bare face.
  2. Using a white or flesh tone liner, start mapping out the patterns on your face. You can use tape to help you create clean lines. It also helps to have a reference photo of the Colossal Titan.
Tip: Try to make your patterns as flawless as possible. It's easier to place the colour and details on the face correctly if you start with a nice guide. Q-tips will come in handy at this point.
  3. Using white face paint or in my case, cream eyeshadow stick, colour in the white parts of the Colossal Titan's face. This includes the teeth. Blend out as necessary.
  4. Using the black eyeliner, draw on the pattern of the teeth on your lips and on the sides of your face. Use this time to draw the lines and detailing on the forehead, between the brows.
  5. Set the white patterns using translucent or white setting powder. Use black eyeshadow to set the eyeliner used to draw the teeth and lines.
  6. Using an eyeshadow brush or sponge applicator, begin to colour in the red areas of the face. (If you used face paint, set this with red eyeshadow.)
  7. Draw on the shape of the Colossal Titan's eyes using black eyeliner and set this with black eyeshadow.
  8. Using an angled brush, outline the white parts using black eyeshadow. Blend and soften these lines toward the RED parts. This will add shading and definition to the look.
  9. Using either the flat eyeshadow brush you used to apply the red eyeshadow/face paint OR the angled brush, take small amounts of the black eyeshadow and white facepaint and create faint, vertical lines on all the red areas of the face. This gives the red parts the illusion of muscle fibre texture.
  10. (Optional) Use makeup setting spray to lock the makeup in place.

WIP (Work in Progress)
I actually started out with a different pattern because as I have said, I didn't have a reference photo of the Colossal Titan. I just went with it and altered as needed. I reeeeeaaaally think I came close to an accurate representation of Mr. Titan-San.

I hope the instructions were clear enough. If you would like me to make a tutorial, leave a comment down below.

So, I hope you liked this look and if you're planning on using this for a Halloween Costume Party or something, let me know and share your photos with me on facebook at my page, Philosphical Jester [ https://www.facebook.com/philosophicaljester?fref=ts ].

Pink and Gray Eye Makeup Tutorial: 2 Variations

Personally, I am not very fond of pink. I tend to lean more towards darker tones. However, when I passed by a certain clothing boutique, I saw this gorgeous cocktail dress that was a beautiful combination of soft gray and light pink. The tones just gave me the perfect inspiration for my very first tutorial. Alright, let’s get to it!

First, you’re going to need the following. [You don’t necessarily need to use the products I am using. Just take reference from the photos and use whatever you have.]

1. Aido Classic Makeup Set [or any palette/individual eyeshadows you have that consist of a frosty off-white shade and a matte black shade]
2. Ever Bilena Eye Pencils [or any black&brown pencil eyeliners, as long as they are blendable]
3. ELF Eyelid Primer [or any eye primer/eyeshadow base]
4. San San Create-Your-Own Eyeshadow singles [matte neutral brown, frosty pink, frosty gunmetal         gray, frosty black shades]
5. Quianyu Eyeshadow Palettes [shimmery white and matte hot pink shades]
6. Essence Long Lasting Eyeliner 01 Black Fever [or any long lasting pencil/gel eyeliner]
7. BYS Eyeliner Neon Pink [any neon pink pencil eyeliner/eyeshadow]
8. L.A. Colors Jumbo Eye Pencil CP401 Sea Shells [white eyeliner/shadow]
9. Aido Classic Liquid Eyeliner [any black liquid eyeliner that can make precise lines]
10. San San Age-Defense Mascara in 01 Black [your favourite black mascara]
11. San San HD Concealer 01 Beige [any concealer]

For this tutorial, I made 2 variations of the eye makeup. The first one is a very wearable look that isn't too bold. In the second one, I just added a few details and defined some things to make the look a bit bolder for those who prefer a more graphic design.

STEP 1:
  • Start with a primed eyelid.
  • Since we're using frosty and dark colours, you might want to finish your eye makeup before putting on concealer and foundation. That way, you wouldn't ruin your base makeup with any fallouts.
STEP 2:
  • Using a brown eyeliner pencil, outline your crease. You can place it above your natural crease if you prefer a bigger eye makeup look.
STEP 3:
  • Blend the line upwards and soften it. You can use a brush, Q-tip, or a clean finger for this step.
  • Blend it further using a matte brown eyeshadow.
STEP 4:
  • Using a black eyeliner pencil, draw a thin line underneath the blended brown line. This will serve a a guide and definition.
STEP 5:
  • Blend the line to soften it and extent it outwards into a slight wing. It doesn't have to be neat just yet. You will have the opportunity to fix it up later.
STEP 6:
  • Apply your frosty pink eyeshadow by patting it on, utilizing the foiling method. [Foiling method is basically applying your eyeshadows/pigments with a wet brush. This is done so that the colours are more vibrant and long lasting.]
STEP 7 - STEP 8:
  • Again, using the foiling method, take some of the matte hot pink eyeshadow and place it on both the inner and outer corners of the eye.
  • Blend and soften the the colours to marry the two pinks together, but make sure you don't cover up the frosty pink colour at the centre of the lids.

    STEP 9:
    • Now, take some sort of shimmery white eyeshadow and place just a little tiny bit on top of the frosty pink. Just pat it on. Again, DO NOT cover up the frosty pink. The purpose of doing this is to add dimension to the look. See how round and 3D the lid looks in the 9th photo? This is very helpful when the colours you use are frosty/shimmer and matte. It create BALANCE. :)
    STEP 10:
    • Using a neon pink eye pencil, line your lower lashline.
    STEP 11:
    • Take a little bit of the frosty pink colour again and use it to blend out the harsh neon pink eyeliner.
    STEP 12:
    • Pack on the frosty gray eyeshadow up until the black line you have drawn from STEP 4. Now, you will understand why I told you to place the black liner UNDER the brown one. It sets the boundary so that you don't place the gray where it's not supposed to go.
    • Use an angled eyeliner brush for this step. Blend the frosty gray eyeshadow and wing it out. This time, make it as neat as possible. this is the time to fix up any mistakes from STEP 5.

      STEP 13:
      • Using the frosty black shade, darken the gray just on the edges. This will give it a smokey effect. Blend this shade well.
      STEP 14:
      • Time to matte up. Using the black matte shade, outline the shape of the eye makeup. Again, this adds to the smokey effect, but don't blend this one out too much. We want a nice and defined shape.
      STEP 15:
      • Now, use a fluffy brush for this step. Select an off white shade. This will serve as your highlight and transition shade. Place this on your brow bone, down until the top of the matte black. Now, blend the off-white shade just a little bit into the black. This will create a soft, even transition of colours. You shouldn't be able to see harsh lines from where your black ends and where your highlight starts.
      STEP 16:
      • Using a long lasting waterproof eyeliner pencil/gel liner, line your upper waterline. For makeup newbies, this is called tightlining.
      STEP 17:
      • Line your inner rims/lower waterline.
      STEP 18:
      • Using a liquid/gel eyeliner, line your upper lashline. Wing it out however you want to.
      STEP 19 - STEP 21:
      • Curl your lashes. (I used the San San Eyelash curler)
      • Apply mascara. Preferably, a volumizing one.
      • [This step is optional, but it does give a flirty effect.] Put on some false lashes. I opted for a more natural type of falsies. (The ones I'm using are bought from Japan. They are made from real human hair. You don't have to use that kind, thought. Synthetic ones will do just fine.)
Now, you can choose to leave it all like that and just go ahead and do the rest of your makeup. However, if you want to take it up a notch, proceed to steps 22 - 23.

      STEP 22:
      • Using concealer and a concealer brush, conceal your dark circles and at the same time, use the concealer to define the edges, make the wing sharper, etc. What I did was I sharpened the eyeshadow edges and followed the shape of the liquid eyeliner wing. [I didn't take a picture of the process. Sorry. :( ]
      • Using the neon pink eyeliner, line your lower lashline and this time, blend it out using the matte hot pink eyeshadow. This is a real pop of colour.
      • Now, if you have steady hands, do your thing, girl! Line the eyes! If you're like me, however, take a card/paper and line it up underneath the black liquid liner and draw a sharp pink line. Extend it as far as you want. Make sure to connect it to the lashline. Set that line with the hot pink eyeshadow.
      STEP 23:
      • Continue with the rest of your makeup, if you haven't already done it.
      • Step back, check if everything is balanced and even. Obviously, you are doing two eyes. So, make sure the wings are even, and all that stuff.
That's it. You're done! Now, just pair this off with a good lip colour [I personally suggest either a soft pinkish nude for a soft look or a hot pink for a bold and dramatic look], a bit of contouring, a soft pink blush, and you're good to go!

      Tips:
      • Since the eyes are quite heavy, even without steps 22-23, take time to do your brows. Make them nice and defined. This will ensure that your eyes don't overpower your face.
      • As I've said earlier, it is best to do your eyes first before doing your foundation.
      • Obviously, you can experiment with different shadow texture. I used frosty ones because those are what I have. You can choose other textures such as shimmery, satin, and matte.
      • If you are using a frosty/shimmery shade, use matte/satin/creme for your lips and matte for your blush. Avoid using shimmery blushers. If you want a bit of glow to your face, just use a bit of highlighter where you need it.
      • I don't suggest skipping the contouring part. Contouring works wonders to your face and balances everything out.
      • If you prefer to take the dramatic look up another notch, use a pair of dramatic false lashes.
That's it for my first ever eye makeup tutorial. If you have any other requests, inquiries, or suggestions, just leave a comment below. If you liked this tutorial, make sure to follow my blog, follow me in twitter, and find me in facebook.
